Matching Gift Program
Did you know your donation to the Mucinous Ovarian Cancer Coalition (MOCC) could be doubled—sometimes even tripled—at no extra cost to you? Many employers offer matching gifts programs as part of their benefit package. Taking advantage of yours is one of the simplest ways to increase funding for mucinous ovarian cancer research, as well as support access to information and services for women.
What is a Matching Gift Program?
A matching gifts program is a benefit offered by thousands of companies that allows them to match charitable donations made by employees. This perk helps team members make a more meaningful impact on the nonprofit organizations closest to their heart, while also allowing the organization to be a good corporate citizen.
Find Out If Your Company Matches Gifts
Checking your eligibility is usually pretty quick and easy:
Ask your HR or Benefits department
Search your company’s benefits portal or intranet for “matching gifts” or “corporate giving”
Reach out to your company’s corporate social responsibility officer or community engagement team These are the most likely people and places to find additional information.
How Does a Matching Gift Program Work?
The process is usually a simple one, and often looks like this:
Confirm donation process: Have a chat with your company’s representative to determine the process for matching gifts. Some programs require you to make an online donation directly to MOCC, while others are set up for you to donate to the company’s matching gift processor. It’s important to clarify this detail to ensure that your gift will be matched.
Donate to MOCC online: For those programs where a direct to MOCC gift is necessitated, you can use the MOCC online donation platform. A receipt is automatically generated when you make your contribution. You will likely need this for your employer. If you need anything additional, drop us an email and we’ll be happy to help.
Match is made: Once you donate, your employer matches your gift, typically through a processor such as Benevity, Pay Pal Giving Fund, or Blackbaud Giving Fund. MOCC receives up to three times your contribution from your employer via check or anelectronic transfer of funds. Thousands of companies participate, but matching gifts often go unused simply because employees aren’t aware they exist.
