MOVING: Mucinous Ovarian Cancer International Group
Moving research on rare diseases forward typically requires pooling global resources and talent and working together toward a shared goal. In fall 2025, a group dedicated to Mucinous ovarian cancer launched a joint effort to do exactly that. Nicknamed MOVING, membership is currently comprised of experts from Australia and New Zealand to the United Kingdom, France, Netherlands, Canada, and Norway to the United States, India, and Taiwan.
What is MOVING?
MOVING is a collaborative global group of clinicians, researchers, and patient advocates committed to improving outcomes and experiences for patients with mucinous ovarian carcinoma (MOC). Established November 2025, our goal is to increase understanding of this rare disease from fundamental research through clinical implementation.
Today, MOVING includes more than 28 members across 10 countries, and continues to grow. We welcome clinicians, scientists, and patient advocates from anywhere in the world who share an interest in MOC.
The Group’s Aspirations
Through MOVING, we aim to answer key questions that will improve how MOC is diagnosed, treated, and understood:
Better diagnosis and prognosis
Earlier detection and follow up
Better understanding of the impact of surgeries
Better treatments, including chemotherapy
More robust clinical trials
Better understanding of who gets MOC
Better understanding of MOC biology
Our First Collaborative Project
Because MOC is rare, no single institution can gather enough data to drive meaningful insights. MOVING is working together on the first collaborative projects to collect de-identified data about MOC patients from existing registries and clinical cohorts globally, using a shared, harmonized framework.
We are working to:
Agree on structure: how and what types of data we are collecting
Collect de-identified data locally: keeping the data local without sharing
Distributed Analysis: analyze data collectively through a federated approach to generate insights without the need to transfer sensitive data across institutions.
MOVING collaborates closely with the Rare Ovarian Cancer Collaborative Analytics (ROCCA) Platform to enable secure distributed and federated analytics.
As the group continues to expand, we’ll share updates here and on our Facebook page.
