Survivor Amanda Laughlin Advocates for Education and Research

If you’ve followed the MOCC Facebook page, you likely recognize Amanda’s name and face. She organized the Ovarian Cancer 5K Run that raised $10,000 for research! Amanda was named the MOCC Volunteer of the Year for 2025.
This is Amanda’s story.
My name is Amanda Laughlin. I live in North Carolina. I am a wife, mother, and nurse practitioner. I have a 14-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son. For the past 13 years, I have been a Nurse Practitioner in the field of gynecology.

The Diagnosis and Journey

My cancer journey began when I was running on the treadmill one day. I experienced a sharp pain on my left side. I had it checked out and, at just 46 years old, I was diagnosed with mucinous ovarian cancer. That was in March 2023.
The surgery and treatment happened very quickly. Like many women say, it was a tough period of time. I am grateful to my family and close friends who supported me.

A Survivor’s Advocacy Work

Today, I currently have no evidence of disease (NED).  I am passionate about educating women and their families about ovarian cancer signs and symptoms, and to supporting mucinous ovarian cancer research. We need better diagnosis and treatment for all women.
